Coulibaly Adama Nanguin Abib Junior, known as JANAC, is a self taught Ivorian American visionary artist whose practice spans painting, fashion, music, public art, and installation. Born in 1995 in Katiola, Côte d’Ivoire, and based in New York City, JANAC explores themes of ancestry, identity, and collective memory through a visual language that bridges West African spiritual symbolism with contemporary urban narratives.
A graduate of the Borough of Manhattan Community College (A.A., Liberal Arts, 2017), JANAC’s work has been exhibited in institutions including the Van Der Plas Gallery, AZART Gallery, Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL), ChaShaMa, Spring Break Art Fair and the Outsider Art Fair. His residencies include JCAL ARTWorks Cohort 2026, ChaShaMa Space for Artists 2025, and That’s Nice 2016.
JANAC’s public collaborations with organizations such as Beam Center, International Rescue Committee, ChaShaMa, God’s Love We Deliver, HBO, Robert Woods Johnson Foundation, and Eat Offbeat reflect his ongoing commitment to community engagement and socially responsive design. His works have appeared in publications including The New York Times, Time Out New York, Pharma’s Almanac Road To Series, Al-Tiba9 Contemporary Art Magazine, French Quarter Magazine, and Art Whale Series.
Rooted in his African heritage yet profoundly shaped by his life in New York, JANAC’s practice embodies a dialogue between cultural preservation and artistic innovation. He currently lives and works in New York City.
